The fact that it was just one sentence makes me wary. Some people take years to start using the past tense when referring to people and I think that Mason, in his… eccentricity, may have just used the wrong tense.

However, his little speech on manipulation is weirdly philosophical

Have we ever received positive confirmation that this is a total burndown and not just the dissolution of an arm of the OSDM? For all we know this is only the burndown of all data centers, with entities responsible for running things somewhere else

Likely that this person was some sort of OSDM equivalent of a case worker or analyst. In that particular case, they were valuable because they had skills in working the data that we provided. Now that the data’s gone, there’s no reason to… employ their services.
